I’m Dave Skinner, and I’m running for the Vermont House of Representatives to represent the Grand Isle–Chittenden District.
I am ready to do the work—ready to listen, exchange ideas, and put political labels aside to focus on practical solutions. Real progress happens when we work together, treat one another with respect, and lead with facts instead of misinformation.
We need to take a hard look at our infrastructure, strengthen our town centers, and make the Champlain Islands a place where families and responsible businesses can put down roots. Our farms and local employers are already struggling to find workers, and without a stable, full-time population, the tax base that supports essential services will continue to erode.
I’m running because property taxes continue to rise while our schools face cuts instead of improvements. I'm running because the cost of living is increasing faster than wages, access to medical care is limited and programs that were made to help Vermonters are being cut. Too many of the Island homes are becoming short-term rentals and vacation properties, making it harder for working families to stay—and weakens the sense of community that makes this part of our state special.
I own and operate a local woodworking business and proudly volunteer with Grand Isle Rescue as a VEFR, where I also serve as Board Secretary. I’m also a vendor and board member of the Champlain Islands Farmers Market. These roles keep me closely connected to our neighbors, our small businesses, and the everyday challenges facing our towns.
I am a Vermonter by choice. My wife and I live in Grand Isle, where we have made our home since 2019, along with our four rescue dogs. We chose the Champlain Islands because of the strong sense of community and the quality of life they offer—and I’m committed to helping preserve both for the future.
I’m eager to earn your trust and to be your voice in Montpelier. Thank you for taking the time to visit, and I look forward to meeting you during the campaign.
